Broadside

This is a crosshatch illustration for a short poem, “Red-winged Blackbird,” by Chard Deniord. I interpreted the poem to be about a marriage where the male feels he is dominant, but in reality, the female is the one in charge. I chose to show this by illustrating the pair on one branch to symbolize their unity. The female sits above the male to show her dominance.
